encore is a place to record what you have watched, read, listened to and played, and what you thought of it. This page says exactly what it keeps, what leaves it, and what you can do about both.

What encore keeps

Your email address, and a name and handle if you choose to add one.
Everything you put in: titles, star ratings, written notes, set lists, the dates you saw things, where you were, who you were with, lists, tickets and any photographs or video you upload.
The public half of any passkey you create. Never a password — encore does not have any.

This is stored on Cloudflare's network, in a database and file store used only by encore, and both are located in Western Europe. Your information does not leave that region, and it is encrypted both in transit and at rest.

What leaves encore, and what does not

Four things go out. Three are about titles rather than about you; the fourth is the email that signs you in.

Finding artwork, details and what is on. The title of a thing is sent to the catalogue that would know it — TMDB, Open Library, RAWG, IGDB, Steam, iTunes, MusicBrainz, Cover Art Archive, Wikipedia or Wikidata — to fetch a poster, a genre or a certificate; and to Ticketmaster or Cineworld to ask what is on and whether booking is open. Nothing identifying you goes with any of it.
Suggestions and built lists. If you ask encore to suggest something, a list of titles you have rated or saved is sent to Anthropic's Claude API, each with its shelf and your star rating. If you ask encore to build a list, the words you typed to describe it go too. Your notes, dates, companions, tickets, name and email are not included, and Anthropic does not train on what the API is sent.
Naming a song. If you press Listen in the app, your iPhone's own Shazam service identifies what is playing — the sound goes to Apple the way it does when you use Shazam itself, never to encore, and nothing is recorded or kept. The named song's industry id is then sent to MusicBrainz to find the album it is from.
Signing in. The six-digit code that signs you in is delivered by Resend, an email service, which is therefore given your email address and nothing else — once per code, only when you ask for one.

Nothing else is sent anywhere. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third party receives your data for their own purposes. Nothing is sold, ever.

What friends can see

Only people you have both added — following someone who has not followed you back shows you nothing. They can see the things you have rated or written about, and the things you have marked as favourites or put in your top four.

They cannot see your diary, your dates, where you were, who you were with, your tickets, your game results, your age notes, or anything you have marked private. Anything can be marked private at any time, and private means private from everything — friends, suggestions and the shared score alike.

Libraries you keep for someone else

encore lets you keep a second library inside your account — a child's, in practice. Those shelves are visible to you and to nobody else. They never appear to friends, never contribute to any shared score, and never leave your account.

The encore score

Ratings are combined across everyone into a single average per title. It is a number and a count — never a name, never a list of people, and there is no way to ask it about a person. Private items, libraries kept for someone else, and events are all excluded from it.

Taking your things, and leaving

Export. Settings → Data → Export everything gives you an archive with your whole library and every photograph in it.
Deletion. Settings → Data → Delete my account removes your account and everything in it, immediately and permanently — shelves, ratings, reviews, tickets, lists, photographs, passkeys and sessions. There is no copy and it cannot be undone. A shared list with other people on it survives, with your name off it.

Children

encore is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect anything from them. The child-profile feature is a parent recording on their own account, not an account for a child.
